Το “χρυσό παιδί” της ελληνικής Πάλης. Ο τίτλος μπορεί για άλλους να ήταν βαρύς, όχι όμως για τον Γιώργο Πιλίδη. Γιατί πλέον έχει το μετάλλιο που κρέμεται γύρω από τον λαιμό του και μπορεί να το επιβεβαιώσει.
Ο παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής Κ23 στην κατηγορία των 65κ. στην πάλη, το είχε δηλώσει στο Fitshop πως δεν βλέπει αντίπαλο στο δρόμο προς την κορυφή.
Στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Τόκιο δεν του βγήκε. Προκρίθηκε, για να διεκδικήσει το μεγαλύτερο όνειρο της ζωής του, εν μέσω πολλών δυσκολιών και τραυματισμών. Ένας τέτοιος επηρέασε και την απόδοσή του στο Τόκιο. Δεν τα κατάφερε, “έσκασε”. Γιατί ήξερε πως αυτό που έδειξε δεν ήταν ο πραγματικός του εαυτός.
Το γνώρισμα όμως των μεγάλων αθλητών είναι το πώς αντιμετωπίζουν μια αποτυχία, πως ξανασηκώνονται στα πόδια τους, μαζεύουν ό,τι ψυχικά αποθέματα έχουν και αρχίζουν να προσπαθούν από το μηδέν. Από την επόμενη μέρα κιόλας.
Αυτό έκανε και ο Πιλίδης. Το νεαρό της ηλικίας δεν αντικατοπτρίζεται στην ψυχοσύνθεσή του. Το αγωνιστικό μότο του, με τις ανατροπές και τις νίκες στο φινάλε που τον έφεραν στην κορυφή του κόσμου, δείχνουν άνθρωπο που μάχεται μέχρι το φινάλε. Που δεν τα παρατάει ποτέ. Αυτή είναι η νοοτροπία των πρωταθλητών.
Γιώργο είσαι ήδη ένας από αυτούς, πρώτος μεταξύ των καλύτερων στον κόσμο.
